Why open API is better than closed

The other day I was showing a friend one of my latest downloads (ShowCam) on my iPhone when this other guy ‘bursted’ – Hey…I don’t get it, all you iPhone owner talk about downloads and how people can build what ever they want for that phone. Well (now with a broad smile) this Nokia of mine has ALL of it built in from scratch. I started to explain but understood by the expression on his face that he wasn’t getting it so I gave up.

Here’s a great list showing tons of add-ons for Flickr. I bet my best Iron 5 that Nokia wouldn’t have thought about all this from scratch.

All because of Open API.

  • Sorry the thing I meant; Iphone is a very bad phone, touchscreen says it all. I have no idea why people that are supposed to be enlited keep on hyping on the Iphone like its a phone from the future, its simply not. Its not even gentle to your right hand. Second of all.. its not cool with google maps, not cool having a fucking sound alarm on your fucking jacket that can alarm others when you are in danger. Thats what I meant with 05.. Iphone is for the “group that is huggable” People that are cute but dont more that that… I love you guys…

  • I was sort of hyping the fact that iPhone has an Open API. And Google Maps is possible the one example of something built in collaboration with apple.

What would you say is the future then?
