Today is a great day.

Some of you probably know about my little venture called JAJDO. Together with Jonas Theder and Andreas Wålm I’ve set out to build an app factory. So far it’s a small factory and it’s taken some time to fine tune the assembly line but we’ve finally made it. Our first app is live in the app store!

The Buildo Rescue Sticker Book

This app is called Buildo Rescue and features 103 hand designed, full-color stickers themed around the Emergency & Rescue Services. There are boats, police cars, ambulances, helicopters, jet skis, scuba divers, doctors, nurses and loads more to choose between!

It’s simple yet cool sticker book app for kids aged 1-7 focused on engaging children’s natural creativity. Studies have shown that children who are able to create or make sense of narratives at an early age have a greater connection to knowledge and greater potential for self-expression.

We’re nr:1 in the Swedish Education category in Sweden

The app was launched yesterday and today we learned that it’s already the Nr:1 in the Swedish education category in the app store. Wow. I’ll tell you – this building products for children’s stuff is fantastic! So, if you haven’t tried it yet – head over to JAJDO and have a look at the app or head straight to the app store. psst – Read the Moms and Dads zone before getting started!

Moving forward we’re hoping to launch somewhere between 5 and 7 more apps before christmas. Most aimed towards kids 1-7 years and some meant for you parents of those small wonders of the world!

Just when I thought I was done renovating our home I ran into this control system that enables regulation and control of our complete building with the touch of a finger.

The Gira Control 19 Client is a PC-based control and regulation unit with a touch screen. It becomes a home station for door communication in combination with the Gira DCS-IP-gateway. The Gira Interface makes all functions easily accessible.

The company behind this is called Gira and they offer a broad range of intelligent building technology for convenience and security. They provide us with devices for networking home technology, music control for all rooms and comprehensive switch ranges, plus numerous functions for door communication, energy and light outdoors – and it all fits together.

What I truly love about this system is the fact that you can build whatever you want on this platform And just recently they also released an iPhone app that lets you control your house while you’re on the road.

As soon as I’ve got this system Installed I’ll follow Jesse Rosten’s example below and buy a couple of iPads and iTouches to be attached to my wall with some velcro. And then the control of my house (and the rest of my life) will be completely mobile.

ps. These Giro guys truly need some guidance when it comes to digital marketing. Low res photos and YouTube videos only in German makes it pretty hard to spread the news.

If you’re into marketing you should really have a look at this new iPhone app from Nike. It really puts focus on what’s going on in the world. Old school people keep talking about how the mobile will advertise the store when you pass it. New school don’t give a shit about the store.

This new Nike ID app puts you in total control over your product. If you wanna bring in inspiration from the street you’re walking on – go ahead. Once you’ve created your shoe, buy it in directly in your iPhone. No stores. No browsers. Only you, the world you live in and your new pair of sneakers.

I’ve already downloaded the app, that can be found via NikeID, and created a pair of sneakers from a photo of my kids – my favorite pair from now on!

Ah. It’s a lovely world but it’s fast. No it’s not fast it’s faster than a bullet. No! It’s faster than light!

Obviously we’re not really there yet. But this spoof gives us a pretty good idea where technology is heading. On top of that I’m getting a smile for free! You will too.

I play golf. I enjoy watching golf tournaments. I’m spending the summer in the lovely Swedish archipelago….without any coverage of the British Open…so I turn to the iPhone app store.

There it is. The second big golf tournament iPhone application in a month. US open lead the way with their application. If you’re into sailing you might have noticed the Volvo Ocean Race application.

The British Open application is a regular news app with videos, timings, player profiles and a video based course guide. On top of that they’ve integrated a small part of their socialise section, the Open Twitter profile into it even though I wish they would have gone one step further and create a #theOpen tag or something where everyone could have interacted and contributed.

Some of the greatest sporting events in the world have already caught up with the trend but we’re still in the early stages. Any brand that has some sort of event based presence should look at creating mobile apps. The possibility to integrate advertising solutions, games, videos, news, schedules, GPS functionality and even the tickets creates huge possibilities for brands that want to stay in touch with their fan base 24/7. Brands that want to reach that fan base should look for unique partnerships and integrate themselves into these applications with exclusive material.

In the end I think these event based applications will end up becoming great best practice examples when it comes to mobile advertising and that will in it turn speed the fact that money will move from traditional media into digital ones.

This morning I’m reading an article in Svenska Dagbladet about the mobile applications of tomorrow. It talks about the Swedish Mobile Life project supported by Sony Ericsson, Microsoft, Telia among others.

About the same time I’m watching this video below where The Mentalists play a cover on the song Kids by MGMT on their iPhones and iPod Touches, using only apps downloaded from the Apple App Store. Apps used Ocarina, Retro Synth, miniSynth, DigiDrummer Lite.

So, the question is, should Mobile Life focus on building their own applications of the future or provide an open applications platform of the future? To me the answer is quite obvious.

The new Apple iMedia? (isn’t it strange that Apples iTunes interface is made for exactly a 10″ screen)

All over the net people are buzzing about what will come from Apple the next WWDC event in June. Reports says Apple has ordered a bunch of 10” displays that might be used to build a Tablet Mac, HD iTouch or a business iPhone. From these alternatives I think the HD iTouch is the most probable rumor (at least I hope so). However I think we should take it a couple of steps further than people have done so far.

Today I had a little discussion about this subject with Alexander Drewniak and Björn Alberts and I decided to publish my thoughts here as well.

Here is what I would do If I were Steve Jobs.

I would launch a 10” version of the iTouch that has a combination of the iTouch and Apple TV interface inside and call it iMedia.

The new Apple iMedia to be launched at the 2009 WWDC event would include a wireless HDMI plug that made it possible for me to sit at home, using the it to browse Apple TV, my iTunes application, the internet and remotely control my TV.

This way I’d have full access to Apple TV, everything that sits in my iTunes, YouTube, Vimeo, Blip, etc and my regular old TV. Sony, Samsung, Philips and the other old dragons would of course be invited to build remote control widgets for their respective TV screens, DVD, Bluerays etc.

The iMedia has all the features from the iPhone except the actual phone functionality. I’d include the same kind of SDK that the iPhone got and since the iMedia had wireless internet, people could build social networking apps, games I could play on the TV and everything else you can (and can not) think of.

The GPS would of course let you browse popular channels and content within your geographical area. The gyro would let you control car games on your TV with the remote control as a steering wheel. Quiz games would be the ‘shit’ on this one!

Another feature would be the camera. This beauty would include not one, but two cameras – one on each side. This way you could use it for iChat, Skype, MSN camera or record things to put online live on sites like Bambuser or Ustream.

Of course once I left home I could bring my iMedia with me and use it anywhere however I wanted.

Result?

The Apple iMedia would disrupt the use of a TV the same way the Ipod once helped disrupt the music industry. On top of that you would challenge the home entertainment system market and the gaming consoles. It would change our TV behavior forever and truly bring Internet to our living rooms. Consuming entertainment & media at home would never be the same again.

That’s more or less the name of this ingenious new iPhone app that let’s you identify a font purely by taking a photo of it. I downloaded it and tried it – it’s a killer app! As often before it’s Miss Swissmiss that delivered the news about the Whatthefont app.

In 1996 I was very proud of my first Palm Pilot. You might recall them – grey little bastards with a pen so you could write the alphabet instead of typing it with your fingers. I was happy to transfer all my contacts and calendars to my Palm since that would hopefully lead to me not loosing them ever again. Today we’re all talking about iPhone and Android and how they have a bunch of applications that you can use in your phone. But back then in 1996 Palm was ahead of the game and multiple sites offered thousands of applications that you could easily download to your Palm

Well, today Palm, in front of their fans introduced the Palm Pre. Their latest phone with the new Palm Web OS that made their stock jump 35%. According to the company, anyone who knows CSS, HTML and XML will be able to develop for the new Web OS. The phone is of course packed with everything you expect including GPS and according to Engadget it will be available in the first half of 2009.

Where does this leave us?

Apple, Google and now Palm. Three companies that doesn’t have the mobile phone history Nokia, SonyEricsson, Motorola and Samsung has, have proven that they all understand the future business of mobile communication better than any of the old dragons.

The future of mobile communications is open source, usability, social communication and the players are new.

Oh, forgot. Not a word about Adobe Flash in this phone either. It’s all CSS, HTML, XML.  All you digital advertising people out there – get on the boat, we’re changing direction!
